Whats the idea behind Direct To Garment Printing?
Direct to garment printing, or DTG is great for small runs of garments with a lot of colours, or for drop shipping individual garments directly to your customer.
With DTG we can print full colour images directly onto clothing digitally, screen printing can be quite expensive on smaller runs of multi coloured designs, as you need to make a screen and mix ink for each colour needed, then set up an MHM auto to print the job. With DTG we just upload the artwork and can have the T-Shirt or hoodie printed in a few minutes.
There are a lot of different DTG printers out there all offering varying results in terms of quality, we use Kornit Storm Hexas, as you can see in the above video. These are the market leaders in the DTG field, and should be used by any company serious about supplying quality DTG garments.
The most important part of the process is the quality of the artwork being used. To get amazing looking prints we need the artwork at 300 DPI on a transparent background at actual print size. The best way to think about it is that the print on the garment will look like the artwork on your screen, so if you have lo res artwork with jagged or faded edges that is how the design will look on your garment when its printed.
