US blog Bostonist has taken a comparative look at the promotional T-shirts being sold by presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain and concluded that the Democrats win in the fashion stakes.

Promotional T-shirts will, according to Bostonist, play a vital role in the election campaigns, and while substance is always important in politics style, could also prove to be a vote winner.

Bostonist has examined the promotional T-shirts being sold through both candidates' official stores and points out that Obama's site offers a wide range of designs for both men and women, including the stylish 'ObamaMama' shirt.

"John McCain's site on the other hand offers mostly polo shirts with McCain's name where you'd usually expect to find an embroidered alligator," the blog quips.

Obama supporters can pick up a promotional t-shirt for as little as $10 (£5), although some of the designs cost up to $50. McCain t-shirts cost between $25 and $35.
