T-shirt printing news: Artist's paintings of printed clothing nominated for award

Fri, 6 Mar 2009 11:26

Consilium clothing - experts in screen printed clothing.A London-based artist has been nominated for a major award for his 3D paintings of printed t-shirts. Keith Lane's striking paintings are up for the Sulman Prize, which is staged in collaboration between the Archibald and Wynne prizes in conjunction with the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Mr Lane uses computer generation techniques to give the printed t-shirts a real-life feel and his artwork has drawn plenty of attention from around the world. For the Sulman Prize entry, he transferred Chinese-influenced designs onto the digital clothing and then layered this with shapes of indigenous Australian animals."For years I've been overlaying figures with either ceramic or textile designs to introduce cultural elements," Mr Lane told the Camden Advertiser. "This year my work is of a similar theme but I'm layering ancient cultures and intertwining old Chinese ways of depicting animals like birds and fish with indigenous Australian ways of representing fish and crocodiles.''Campbelltow Council has also commissioned the artist to create 15 banners to be installed at Glenfield.Renowned graphic artist Robert Mercer was recently commissioned by Caffe Vita to illustrate the lifecycle of a coffee plant from seedling to flower to producing fruit.Find out more about our printed clothes.
