School pupils to get free uniform

Tue, 3 Jun 2008 14:44

More than 750 pupils at a secondary school are to be treated to a new uniform on the school as a reward for sticking to a strict new dress code, the Shropshire Star has reported.

Abraham Darby Academy in Telford has been undertaking "special measures" for almost three years and as part of an attempt to raise standards it is now introducing the new dress code from September.

The specialist performing arts school is to ban its pupils from wearing hoodies, unkempt hairstyles, jewellery, baseball caps, piercings, suede shoes, trainers, boots and denim.

In addition, students' school ties will have to show five strips and top buttons must be done up.

The school is currently in the process of becoming an academy from September in partnership with Adams' Grammar School, The Haberdashers' Company and Telford & Wrekin Council.

The new academy will provide co-education for 900 students between the ages of 11 and 16.
