Consilium clothing - experts in workwear. An advice centre in Tonbridge has appealed to Kent County Council over the lack of financial assistance available for school uniform items such as printed t-shirts.Tonbridge Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB) has written to the local authority to request that a school workwear grant be introduced for disadvantaged households. Under current regulations, local authorities have the capacity to offer cash or vouchers for school uniforms. However, Kent council opted to stop offering such financial assistance back in 1998. Angela Newey, CAB bureau manager, advised that parents should contact their school if they are struggling to afford the cost of uniforms. "There's always money available," she explained. "I think the problem is quite a lot of parents just accept it and they do need to be more proactive in letting schools know they are not happy."This also follows a similar appeal on Merseyside, which led to Lancashire County Council cancelling plans to scrap financial assistance for school workwear.
