Supermarket chain Asda has launched a new range of affordable workwear to help women during the credit crunch.

The retailer is selling the 'city-suit' corporate clothing which at £20 is the cheapest item of its kind ever sold in the store.

Created under the George label, women can purchase a smart jacket combined with either a skirt or trousers.

Anthony Thompson, George managing director, said that many women in the UK will have to "make very considered decisions" while shopping for clothes during 2009.

"With hundreds of thousands of jobs being lost last year, people who want to smarten up often can't afford to," Mr Thompson explained.

"Having a workwear range in store that will suit everybody, no matter what your profession, is key to helping our customers get through what is going to be a very tough year."

The retailer will also launch the Office Chic corporate clothing on January 21st, which is a pair of £10 trousers which comes with a free blouse.
